Description

A comforting and easy slow cooker chicken and gravy recipe featuring tender shredded chicken in a savory, creamy gravy perfect served over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Gravy

  • 2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 packets (0.87 oz each) chicken gravy mix
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 1/2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

Optional

  • 1/2 cup sour cream (for creamier gravy)

Instructions

  1. Prepare gravy mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk together the chicken gravy mix, cream of chicken soup, chicken broth, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and thyme until smooth.
  2. Place chicken in slow cooker: Put the chicken breasts in the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker.
  3. Add gravy: Pour the prepared gravy mixture over the chicken, ensuring it is fully covered.
  4. Cook chicken: Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours or on high for 3–4 hours, until the chicken is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
  5. Shred chicken: Shred the chicken directly in the slow cooker and stir to coat all pieces in the gravy.
  6. Add sour cream: If using, stir in sour cream just before serving for extra creaminess.
  7. Serve: Serve the chicken and gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles for a hearty meal.

Notes

  • Use chicken thighs instead of breasts for more flavor and tenderness.
  • Add frozen peas or cooked mushrooms during the last hour of cooking for added vegetables.
